PERUVIAN ANCHOVETA FISHING NET: PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE
BACKGROUND
In the 1950s, there was not a single net in Peru designed to catch anchoveta; it was merely a bycatch. Decades of using increasingly fine-meshed nets put the species at risk. This article traces that history and introduces the selective net developed by Lumen Sapientiae, designed to let juveniles escape while capturing only adults intended for human consumption. We invite you to read it.
